Therapy Techniques

Healing is not a one-size-fits-all journey. We believe in a collaborative approach, drawing from a diverse range of evidence-based modalities to suit your unique situation.

Whether you are seeking to resolve past trauma, manage current stressors, or simply understand yourself better, our psychologists partner with you to build practical skills and foster deep, lasting change.

Please explore our therapy techniques below to learn more.

CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy)

CBT is a flexible framework that can be tailored to each of your needs. Depending on the presenting difficulties, our psychologist draws on a range of techniques — such as thought challenging, behavioural activation, or trauma-focused approaches like Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT) — to target specific symptoms and support recovery.

This adaptability allows CBT to be applied effectively and uniquely to each client, ensuring interventions are relevant and personalised.

ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy)

ACT is a mindfulness-based approach that helps individuals open up to difficult thoughts and feelings rather than avoiding them.

By clarifying personal values and committing to meaningful action, ACT supports clients in building a more fulfilling and flexible life—even in the presence of challenges like anxiety, depression or stress.

Schema Therapy

Schema Therapy is an advanced integrative approach that helps individuals identify and change deep-rooted, trauma-related patterns, or “schemas,” formed early in life. These patterns can impact relationships, self-esteem and emotional wellbeing.

By combining elements of cognitive, behavioural, experiential and gestalt therapies, Schema Therapy supports lasting change and healthier ways of thinking, feeling and relating to others. This approach is helpful for many conditions, including
Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, BPD, and deeper, more complex Couples Therapy.

Psychodynamic Therapy

Psychodynamic Therapy explores how past experiences, unconscious patterns and early relationships shape current thoughts, emotions and behaviours.

Through a collaborative and reflective process, clients gain deeper self-awareness, work through unresolved issues and develop healthier ways of relating to themselves and others.

Family Systems Therapy

Family Systems Therapy views the family as an interconnected unit, where each member’s experiences and behaviours affect the whole system.

This approach helps individuals and families understand patterns of interaction, improve communication and create healthier relationships by addressing issues within the broader family context.

IPT (Interpersonal Therapy)

Interpersonal Therapy is a structured, time-limited approach that focuses on improving relationship skills and addressing interpersonal challenges.

By exploring patterns in communication, grief, role transitions and social functioning, IPT helps clients reduce symptoms of depression and other emotional difficulties while strengthening their support networks.

Child/Dyadic Behaviour Therapy

Child/Dyadic Behaviour Therapy focuses on strengthening the parent-child relationship while addressing emotional and behavioural challenges in young children.

Through structured, play-based interactions and caregiver involvement, this approach supports healthy attachment, emotional regulation and positive behaviour in a nurturing, developmentally appropriate way.

Hypnosis

Clinical hypnosis is a safe, evidence-based technique that uses guided relaxation and focused attention to help individuals access inner resources for change. It can be effective in managing anxiety, stress, pain, habits and other psychological or physical concerns.

Hypnosis is always conducted collaboratively, with the client remaining in control throughout the process.

DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy)

DBT is a structured, evidence-based therapy designed to help individuals manage intense emotions, build distress tolerance and improve relationships.

Combining cognitive-behavioural techniques with mindfulness and acceptance strategies, DBT is especially effective for emotion regulation difficulties, self-harm and borderline personality traits.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) Therapy

EMDR is a structured, evidence-based approach that helps individuals process and heal from traumatic or distressing experiences.

Through guided eye movements and focused attention, EMDR supports the brain’s natural healing processes, reducing the emotional impact of memories without needing to relive them in detail.

Supportive Counselling, Debriefing and Life Coaching

Whether you’re navigating a challenging time, recovering from a critical incident, or seeking clarity and direction, supportive counselling, debriefing and life coaching provide a safe, structured space to reflect, regroup and grow.

These sessions focus on emotional support, practical strategies and goal setting to help you build resilience, regain confidence and move forward with purpose.

MBSR (Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction)

MBSR uses techniques derived from meditation, focused awareness of breathing, and physical movements, tuning into the five senses and the environment. You can learn how to direct your conscious attention to more neutral or pleasant aspects of experience to enrich your life path.

It is used to support overall emotional well-being by reducing stress and anxiety. It can also bring relief to chronic pain sufferers.

ERP (Exposure and Response Prevention)

ERP helps sufferers of OCD and anxiety disorders build confidence and regain control of their lives by gradually and safely exposing them to situations, thoughts, and triggers of compulsive or avoidant behaviours while assisting them to resist the usual response.

Administered over time at a suitable pace, this practice reduces the cycle of compulsion and related anxiety.

The Gottman Method

Used in couples counselling; is research-based and focuses on improving communication to manage conflict and strengthen the relationship, resulting in increased stability and intimacy.

The therapist may use questionnaires to gain insight into strengths and vulnerabilities in the relationship. The Gottman Method works on building the friendship and emotional bond or connection for a strong foundation rather than just working on “fixing problems”.
