How do I regulate my emotions as an adult?
Practising present moment awareness and using coping strategies such as deep breathing, body awareness, movement/exercise, mindfulness, and journaling are all great ways to regulate your emotions.
By working with our psychologists, they will help you challenge unhelpful thoughts, learn how to pause before responding to mitigate the reactionary traits associated with dysregulated emotions, and find where in your life you may need healthy boundaries and how to set them.
What are symptoms of emotional dysregulation?
Common symptoms include mood swings, impulsive reactions, irritability or frustration, trouble managing stress, having difficulty calming down, and anxiety.
They can contribute to difficulty in making decisions and can affect relationships and daily functioning.
What is the hardest emotion to control?
It is most often considered thatĀ fearĀ is the hardest emotion to control.
It is the underlying emotion of anxiety-related issues and triggers strong responses in the body and mind, such as irrational thought, causing an inability to make good decisions, which inhibits the formation of a resolution to the possible reasons for feeling the fear. Physical reactions of increased heart rate and adrenaline surges are also commonplace.
